Taking Bird Pictures

Barn Swallow

They usually fly away before I press the button. I must be getting faster or lucky.

I’ve been taking a lot of pictures of birds lately.  I wouldn’t say I’m a birder. But I find I notice them more and more.

I usually spot them as I take little drives in the van trying to get our littlest to take a nap. I drive along rural roads, fast enough to hear the hum of the road but slow enough to stop and take a snapshot or two.

Other times I see them on walks, hikes or bike rides. I use a Canon Powershot S3 IS which is the predecessor of the Canon PowerShot S5 IS.  I like the camera as it is small enough to carry most places but big enough to allow for a 12X optical zoom lens. Having a zoom lens is great for getting close-ups birds and animals.
