Utah Orienteering at o-utah.org has posted its 2008 calendar. 

Two events are being held north of Salt Lake City.

The first  is in Kaysville at Kaysville Mountain Park on June 14. Time 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

The second is at Snowbasin Resort on July 19. Time:  11:00 AM - 1:00 PM  

9 other events are scheduled in Utah this year.

I’ve never tried orienteering but I’ve wanted to for some time. Utah Orienteering is also holding a clinic on May 8 from  7-8 pm  at the REI store in Sandy. That might be the introduction I need. I think I’ll take my kids.

According to OrienteeringUnlimited.com, “orienteering is a sport wherein participants must navigate from one point to another using a map. Orienteering has been likened to a scavenger hunt in the woods, but it’s much more than that!  In orienteering, participants receive a map of an area which shows a series of sites to visit. Participants develop strategies to navigate from one site to another. The challenge is to find the most efficient route to all of the locations and prove you were there.”
