I just received my first issue of National Geographic Adventure magazine in the mail. In the past couple of months I’ve purchased it at my local Border’s bookstore. I liked it so much I decided to spring for a yearly subscription. It was pretty inexpensive.
The current issue profiles Sir Richard Branson and Will Stegal on their global warming trip to the I’m not sure how a rich dude flying his personal jet to look at ice helps global warming but it was an interesting read.
Cynicism aside, I like the magazine. It’s a great way for a wannabe adventure traveler like myself to read about some nifty world places, learn about adventurous people and look at some fantastic photos.
Here is what the website says about the Jan 2008 issue.
“For our Best of Adventure 2008 cover story, we review the year’s top achievements in the larger-than-life world of adventure. We start with a story about the environmental efforts of our Lifetime Achievement honorees, rebel billionaire Richard Branson and polar explorer Will Steger. Next we profile 15 regular folks who dreamed big and succeeded this year, including Adventurer of the Year Andrew Skurka, who started hiking in 2001 and can’t seem to stop. Then, in our leading-edge guide to the state of adventure, we celebrate the best gear, outdoor sports trends, and audacious acts of 2007″

Not to be vain or anything, but read the sea lion article in that issue. I’m quoted several times in it.

Thanks for the tip. I read the article last night. Based on the article I agree with you that the sea lions are only a side issue to the real problem.
