This week’s theme for the DoingStuffOutdoors Podcast #17 is ‘Kids and the Outdoors’. I have a lot to say about this subject apparently because Gary intervied me for the show and I talked for about 15 minutes. Here is how he introduced me.
“Brent is a father of three young children. Before the kids came along he used to enjoy endurance sports. But now he’s turned his attention to outdoor activities he can do with the children as a family. Brent has a few tips on how to introduce your kids to the outdoors.”
Listen now. You don’t need an ipod to listen to podcasts. You can download it and listen on you computer. It’s simply an audio file.
Gary also shares my belief that spending time with children in the outdoors doesn’t always have to be about organized hikes or skiing trips. Sometimes it’s just about spending time together doing simple things. On his website written a post about playing outside. Here’s how he starts:
I remember those endless summer days of my childhood. My friends and I would head outdoors right after our bowl of corn flakes and we’d spend the whole day playing, sometimes not coming in until almost dark. We’d ride our bikes everywhere. We’d spend hours exploring the nearby creek and woods. As hokey as it sounds now, we even climbed trees.

Careful. You’re going to wake up one day and discover that you’re famous.
