I took this picture of a recent Father-Son golf night.
This year, my oldest didn’t want to play soccer but I want to encourage a weekly sport anyway. With that goal in mind, Wednesday night is now golf night for us.
It’s fun and inexpensive. Many public courses have practice putting greens and chipping areas that can be accessed for free. You can also share small bucket of range balls and whack away at the driving range for around $5.

5) Enjoy the beautiful weather and the outdoors.
4) It is probably better than family game night.
3) Organize a tournament with your family and get those competititive juices flowing. Offer incentives for the longest drive, closest to the hole, and straightest shot.
2) Take sibling rivalry to the course with a friendly competition. Who knows? You may become a long drive champion.
1) On a golf course you can escape to the beach, ocean, jungle, and the rainforest. Technically we would call these the bunker, water hazard, or the punch-out area, but during family golf, it is necessary to use your imagination.
Some of the things I’ve learned so far:
1) Be patient. Don’t worry too much about swing mechanics at early ages. Just let them hit it and practice the hand-eye coordination.
2) Buy the right size of clubs. I picked up some kids clubs for about $14 a piece at Big 5 Sports. But you could probably look at these clubs on Amazon for boys or girls Junior Golf Pro-Style Starter Set - Girl’s.
